Weekend News-The student writes and illustrates something special he/she did on Saturday or Sunday.
Please review what your child did over the weekend before coming to school on Monday so that he/she is prepared to complete the weekend journal with confidence.

Monthly Journal –The student writes and illustrates an event done during the month.  This is completed at the end of each month.

Writing JournalThe student uses invented spelling and puts it into a word, sentence or a story.  Invented spelling is when the student creates his/her own spelling when conventional spelling is not known. One letter may represent an entire syllable, words may overlay, and the student may not use proper spacing; however, as writing matures, more words are spelled conventionally and perhaps only one or two letters may be omitted.  As the year progresses, we begin editing the work as we become conventional spellers.
The emphasis is to develop a love of writing and to make connections to the writing process.
