FAQ for Close Contacts FAQ close contact

Close Contact-Outside of School: A close contact is defined as an individual that is within 6 feet of a COVID positive person for 15 cumulative minutes or more over the course of a 24 hour period. While outside of school there are many mitigation factors that help stop the spread of COVID, this definition does not take those into consideration. As always, we encourage staying home when sick, practicing good hand hygiene, physically distancing, and using a face covering especially when indoors and with individuals outside the immediate family. These are all valuable practices in keeping one healthy, but they do not exclude someone from being identified as a close contact.

Close Contact-In The School Setting: In the preK-12 setting the definition of a close contact excludes students who were within 3 to 6 feet of an infected student if both the infected student and the exposed student(s) correctly and consistently wore well-fitting masks the entire time. The identification of a close contact does include times when an individual is unmasked and within 6 feet of the infected individual for more than fifteen cumulative minutes during a 24 hour period. Times when this exposure may occur include eating lunch or snack and/or physical education class.

Close Contact Quarantine: If an individual is unvaccinated and identified as a close contact he/she will be excluded from school for 10 days and must quarantine as long as we remain in the “moderate” COVID activity range. Live virtual instruction will commence for this child.
